Top 10 Movie Car Chases

There is nothing better than a car chase in an action movie – it just doesn’t count if there isn’t one! Here at Screentrade, we’ve put together our top 10 movie car chases of all time… 

10. The Italian Job ( 1969) 

We’re kicking off our top 10 with an absolute classic car chase. Let’s watch Michael Cain escape those Italians with a little help from a convoy of Mini’s.

9. The Driver (1978) 

Here is one of the greatest car chases involving the police. As the criminal wheelman takes on the streets of late night LA to escape their pursuit.

8. Thunder Road (1958) 

This crime filled drama has one of best car chase scenes of all time, especially with the added bonus of a homemade gadget strapped to the bumper of the car which when activated unleashes an oil-slick to de-road the followers.

7. Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry (1974) 

Larry, played by Peter Fonda, is a Nasca driver who blackmails a businessman. Predictably, it all goes wrong leaving Larry tackling some police cars and helicopter in a great escape from justice.

6. Smokey and the Bandit (1977) 

Now here’s an impressive chase, we see Burt Reynolds as the Bandit. It tells the tale of a trucker who has been hunted by lawman Burford T Justice. Reynolds pulls off some extreme stunts and driving to get ‘the man’ off his back.

5. Gone in 60 Seconds (1974) 

The original Gone in 60 Seconds saw the destruction of 93 cars and featured a 40 minute car chase! Now that is impressive!

4. For Your Eyes Only (1981) 

A top 10 movie list isn’t right if it doesn’t involve at least 1 James Bond movie; and we all know Bond can do a chase better than anybody! We’ve got our favourite Roger Moore tackling some tricky turns and mountains in For Your Eyes Only.

3. The Blues Brothers (1980) 

The infamous brothers have themselves a tasty car chase when they take their Dodge into a shopping centre in order to escape the wrath of the Chicago police.

2. Ronin (1998)

 This thriller is jam packed with shocking car chases, including a memorable tunnel-based, pile-up scene. We wonder how many cars were destroyed in the making of this film.

1.Bullitt (1968) 

Steve McQueen is Lieutenant Frank Bullitt: a tough-talking, no-nonsense cop who would do anything for his job. McQueen takes centre stage in one of the BEST car chases of all time, in his Ford Mustang. Taking of the heights of the San Francisco mountainous terrain,  doing everything he can to catch those pesky hitmen. It’s got everything you want in a great action movie; cars, speed, guns and even a fireball finish.
